Today was Yom Ha’atzma’ut/Israel Independence Day. We started our morning early so we could do shacharit at the kotel. We prayed at the egalitarian part of the kotel, and had a fun service with Hallel and a special Torah reading.
After that, we made our way to a virtual reality simulation of life during the First Temple period. After that was over we made our way to the holy Kotel where we put the notes that we had brought from Schechter students into the cracks, and we said a quick personal prayer.
We made our way to the Jewish quarter for lunch. We had a big variety of burgers, shawarma, pizza and more to choose from. We then went to the old historic City of David where we walked through the Hizkiyahu water tunnels, trying not to scream in the dark narrow tunnel. We then made our way through a sewer from the second temple period, and at the end, we met our bus to head back to the hotel. We are now getting ready to go to the lively Ben Yehuda street for a pizur dinner (we get money to get our own food), shop, and join in the lively spirit of the street.
