All About Inclusion

On Tuesday, the 3rd grade students at the Solomon Schechter Day School in West Hartford participated in a very powerful workshop on deafness, as part of the Gateways program, Ambassadors of Inclusion. During the almost two hour workshop, the students learned about the scientific basis of deafness and participated in several engaging hands-on activities, learning to finger spell their names and home towns and finger spelling their names in Hebrew. Ellie Kay, a third grader, said, "I like learning how to spell my name with my hands in Hebrew and English because I can say my name without actually saying it."
